Lou Reed: March 2, 1942 – October 27, 2013
We were saddened by Lou Reeds passing this past weekend, shocked even. Though he was over 70 he seemed as vivid and robust as always. Still engaged in defining the edges of experimental music up until the end.
A man so emblematic of New York City cool from his days in The Velvet Underground to Transformer and Metal Machine Music, he surprised fans and critics at every turn.He recorded the ambient album,Hudson River Wind Meditationsto accompany his practice of Tai Chi, followed a few years later by a collaboration with Metallica called Lulu.
Reed’s dichotomous output is authentic and revelatory of the complexity of his character and the purity of his vision. Let’s celebrate the low key legend who walked the streets of New York City right ‘til the end.
